Craps

Craps is one of the most widely played casino games. It is a very complicated game and a game based on pure luck. The craps game was developed from the Old English game named hazard. Craps is basically a gambling game played with two dice.  The main objective of the game is to predict the outcome of the roll of the dice. A first throw of 7 or 11 wins the game and a first throw of 2, 3, or 12 loses the game and a first throw of any other number is repeated to win before a 7 is thrown, which otherwise loses the bet

The craps table is run by four casino members: a box man who monitors the playing chips, dealers and the players; two dealers who collect and pay bets to the winners; and a stickman who announces the results of each dice roll and collects the dice.

In craps game, the player rolling the dice is called the shooter and first throw of the dice is called the Come out Roll. If the player throws a 7 or 11 on the first roll he wins and this is called a ‘natural’.  If on the first roll the player throws a 2, 3 or a 12, it s called craps, and the player loses.  The shooter goes on rolling until he makes a ‘seven out’. If the player throws a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, then he makes a ‘box point’ and keep on rolling the dice until he throws the same number again. But if he throws a 7 before the same box point, he loses.

Bets

There are two basic bets available in Craps game. One is the roll bets which are determined by the next roll of the dice and the other one is the sequence bets which require several rolls of the dice before determining the results. The various bets available in craps game are pass line bets, don’t pass line bets, come bets, don’t come bets, odds bets, place bets, proposition bets, hard way bets, any seven bet, any craps bet, and many more.

Craps Combination and Odds

There are 11 possible numbers in the craps game ranging from 2 to 12. And for each roll of the dice there are 36 possible outcomes. 7 is the most probable number to be rolled as six of the 36 outcomes result in sevens. On the other hand, 2 and 12 are the least probable and each have 1/36 chance of coming out. The following pairs have equal probabilities: 3 & 11, 4 & 10, 5 & 9, and 6 & 8.

Craps variations

Bank craps, also known as Las vegas craps is a variation of the craps game. It uses a special table layout and all bets must be made against the house. The overall house edge is around 1.4%.

Crapless Craps, also known as Bastard Craps is a simple version of the craps game, and is played as an online private game. In this craps game, a player can bet on rolling a 2, 3, 11 or 12 before a 7 is thrown. In crapless craps, 2 and 12 have odds of 11:2 and have a house edge of 7.143% while 3 and 11 have odds of 11:4 with a house edge of 6.25%.

Die Rich Craps, which is also known as Open Craps or Money Craps is a recent version of the craps game, and is played using a single die. It involves bets made against the book. The book keeps a specific percentage of the total amount of money wagered (5%-7%).

High Point Craps is another version of the Craps game in which the initial roll of a 2 or a 3 is ignored. If a player rolls 11 or 12, the player wins. Any other total rolled, is considered as 1 point and the player rolls again. The house edge in this craps game is around 2.35%.

New York Craps is another variation of craps. In this game, the house edge is greater than Las Vegas Craps or Bank craps. The table layout is also different, and is called a double-end-dealer table. This game doesn’t allow Come or Don’t Come bets. The overall house edge in New York craps is 5%.
